PAPERPLANE THERAPEUTICS

Dr. Jean-Simon Fortin is an emergency medicine physician who graduated from the University of Montreal in 2013.
During his residency, he spearheaded a research project exploring the use of virtual reality as a non-pharmacological tool for pain and anxiety management during medical procedures.
Dr. Fortin has always been an advocate for non-pharmacological approaches in his practice, being acutely aware of the side effects of many medications and their limited impact.
Working at CHU Sainte-Justine, a pediatric university hospital, he confronted daily challenges managing pain and anxiety in patients undergoing examinations or procedures.
Faced with a lack of available solutions and the limitations of pharmacological options, Dr. Fortin decided to bring his research findings to life.
He partnered with Professor David Paquin, an expert in immersive technologies and new media.
Together, they developed an initial prototype and subjected it to clinical trials in collaboration with Professor Sylvie Le May, a pediatric pain researcher.
Encouraged by the excellent clinical trial outcomes, Dr. Fortin and Professor Paquin co-founded Paperplane Therapeutics in 2019 to commercialize their innovation.
With their Health Canada approval in November 2021, they deployed their product at several mass vaccination centers in the greater Montreal area, benefiting over 50,000 children by enhancing their vaccination experience.
The feedback from patients, their families, and vaccinators was overwhelmingly positive.
The technology's rollout also garnered significant media attention, boosting Paperplane Therapeutics' visibility.

Building on their expertise, Dr. Fortin and Professor Paquin developed a product version suitable for dental procedures.
Aware of the unique challenges of the dental setting, they tailored a solution that has since proven its mettle.
Paperplane Therapeutics subsequently expanded its product range to include MRI preparation and simulation for children and a pain and anxiety relief product that uses sensor-guided breathing exercises.
Dr. Fortin ensures each product meets the highest safety and quality standards and undergoes rigorous scientific validation.
As a clinician himself, he guarantees that, in addition to being highly effective, Paperplane Therapeutics' solutions are user-friendly to encourage clinician adoption.

Paperplane Therapeutics is now proud to work with renowned institutions in the US, such as Boston Children's, Dallas Children's, Gillette Children's, Sparrow Health, and Shriners Hospital for Children.
In Canada, collaborations include Sick Kids, CHEO, Shriners Hospital in Montreal, and CHU Sainte-Justine.
