The mounting articular is not used as an articulator, but can be understood as a device which protects this precision instrument. Since models can be freely exchanged between similarly-calibrated articulators, they do not need to be transported in the articulator but can be transferred using mounting articulators which are similarly calibrated to the same model settings.
